Kahles, a company from Austria, so far have specialized mainly in riflescopes. Even though they have been present on the market for over one hundred years recently their binoculars line-up consisted of three roof models with the following parameters: 8x32, 8x42 and 10x42 for quite a long time.

For many years the HG (High Grade) series, consisting of 8x20, 10x25, 8x32, 10x32, 8x42 and 10x42 models, represented top-of-the-range roof prism binoculars produced by Nikon. In 2010 they launched an even better line of products marked as EDG. In the meantime the HG series got a bit old and, as the rivals improved by leap and bounds, Nikon decided to launch its successors. In July 2016 they showed two new pairs of Nikon Monarch HG, the 8x42 and the 10x42 one.

In the previous part of our „monarchy adventures” we related the genesis of roof prism binoculars produced by Nikon and their evolution toward the current Monarch series. In this part we are going to check how these products actually fare while tested outdoor and whether they can persuade prospective owners, expecting a solid pair of binoculars, that they are worth their interest.

The MeoPro HD series produced by the Czech Meopta company consists of pairs of binoculars for a little more price conscious user than the customers of the flag Meostar models. Most likely you deal here with optics ordered in Asian factories and then assembled and finished in the USA.

The Pentax AP WP series consists of two Porro prism sets of binoculars: the 8x30 and the 10x30. These are quite classic optical systems with a 2-piece achromatic objective lens and a 2+1 eyepiece. The producer claims that all air-to-glass surfaces are multi-coated by antireflection layers.

The B1 Meostar series produced by Czech Meopta was launched on the market in 2005. They started with the following models: 7x42, 8x42, 10x42, 7x50, 10x50 and 8×56 and then the line-up was complemented by 8x32,10x32 and 12x50 instruments.

The Sherman Pro binoculars, manufactured by Levenhuk, are their top-of-the-line, most advanced series with Porro prisms. The series consists of instruments with the following parameters: 6.5x32, 8x32, 8x42, 10x42, 10x50 and 12x50.

In January 2013 the Zeiss company surprised everybody by presenting a new, low-budget series of binoculars produced in China under the name of Terra ED. First the 8x42 and 10x42 models were launched but in March 2015 they added the 8x32 and 10x32 and several months later such ‘babies’ as the 8x25 and the 10x25 appeared on the market as well.

The Zeiss Conquest series was launched over ten years ago. These were binoculars produced by Zeiss in their Hungarian factory and, overall, ten models were released with the objective lenses ranging from 30 to 56 mm in diameter. In January 2012 a new Conquest series, with HD letters added to its name, was released and it was produced in Germany.

In 2013 it seemed that Zeiss showed everything there was to show in the 42 mm class. They’ve launched fully-fledged successors of the Conquest and Victory FL series along the Terra ED, aimed at less advanced customers. Still those who thought Zeiss would rest on their laurels were wrong. In June 2014 they presented next 8x42 and 10x42 models, this time being a part of a series called Victory SF which was supposed to be placed even higher than the Victory HT.

The history of roof prisms binoculars from the SLC series, produced by the Austrian Swarovski Optik company, is really long. The first SLC 8x30 model was launched already in 1989. At some point those instruments constituted actually the top-of-the-range line of that producer in its heyday consisting of such models as 7x30, 8x30, 7x42, 8x42, 10x42, 7x50, 8x50, 10x50, 8x56 and 15x56.

In February 2012, right before the IWA fairs, two Zeiss models belonging to a brand new Victory HT series were launched on the market: the 8x42 and the 10x42. At that time everybody thought these two were fully-fledged successors of the Victory FL series although at first glance there were few differences between them and the older models, especially when it came to the parameters.
