The current Vortex Diamondback series was launched on the market in 2016. It consists of as many as eight models with the following parameters: 8x28, 10x28, 8x32, 10x32, 8x42, 10x42, 10x50 and 12x50. All of them are roof prism Schmidt-Pechan instruments with prisms covered by dielectric coatings.

The Focus Nordic Extreme series consists of binoculars with following parameters: 8x32, 10x32, 8x42, 10x42, 10x50 and 12x50. They are all Schmidt- Pechan roof instruments with phase-correction coating on prisms. Also all elements are supposed to be covered by FMC coating.

Near the end of 2016 we saw another Steiner Nighthunter binoculars. Both the casing and optics of the 8x56 model were distinctly modified; apart from that any acronyms like XP or Xtreme disappeared from the name. The binoculars were also given one of the widest fields of view in their class.

The DO Titanium 10x56 ROH is a small and handy roof instrument with Schmidt-Pechan prisms. Its reflective surface is supposed to be covered by enriched aluminum layers. Apart from that all air-to-glass surfaces feature multilayer antireflection coatings.

I have been looking for a sensible pair of binoculars for children aged 10 or less for several years. My requirements are simple. An ideal set of binoculars has to be lightweight (less than 400 grams), handy and optically decent.
