Overall
Owner since: 3 months
Price: £250
User profile: Professional
Cons: A little bit of flare against the light, slightly heavy. Main \"problem\", at least for some, is VERY highly geared focussing (perceived by some as limited depth-of-field, which of course it is not) so that must usable distances are covered by less than a half-turn. Some will love it, some not, but speed of response means that, with practice, you can get on to a bird very quickly, but with less practice you constantly overshoot.
Pros: Large prisms for 8x, strong build, Pentax claim some ED glass (although later ED model must have more?). Very good centre definition, out to about 70%, little chroma distortion to my eyes, very neutral colour balance (similar to Nikon Porro SEs)
Summary: Discontinued model now I think but, if you can find it for around £250 as I did, then I can\'t think of better value. Acceptably close to the best at nowhere near the price - certainly a great starter pair for budding ornithologist.
