Pros: heavy duty
Summary: Bausch & Lomb had started the production of a binocular 7x50 for US Navy during Second World War, after the war the production was moved to Japan. However, the binoculars named Nikon Tropical was initially 6x30. US-Japan joint movie \"Tora ! Tora ! Tora ! \" released in 1970 was Japan Attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, we can recognize both Navy binoculars of Japan and US on it. The former was a copy of Carl Zeiss 7x50 which was named Nova, the later was the origin of Tropical 7x50. As Japan is a Island country, the fishing industries is very active. Also until 150 years ago Japanese Buddhism has banned killing and eating animals something like a cow and a pig except fish. With that as a cause Japan is less active in hunting than in the West. Since Tropical is a dedicated binocular for fishing and ships, the image emphasizes a sharp field rather than a wide-angle. Moreover it is of matchless strength. For these reasons Tropical has been tremendously trusted by professionals for over half a century.

Cons: Heavy so not easy to leave strapped around the neck. Image not perfect at edge like the SP Prostar is. Eyepiece bezels can break after many years of use.
Pros: Toughest binocular ever made. Superb brightness and clarity of image. Completely waterproof - get them dirty and wash them in the sink with warm water and detergent.
Summary: I am a professional mariner. Some time ago I wrote in another forum \"30 years on the bridge of a ship\" That 30 is now 40 years as the binoculars were bought in 1978. These binoculars are THE choice for bridge binoculars. I prefer the hard eye bezels of the earlier model over the rubber eyecaps, but the can break after many years of use. The pair that I have now left on the ship I retired from, has had two replacement sets of bezels in their 40 year life.
